What is MRV?

Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV) is the framework that ensures every tonne of carbon removed is real, additional, and permanent. KARBOTECH one tracks the full value chain: biomass input at the pyrolysis unit, GPS-verified biochar application coordinates, and calculated CDR (Carbon Dioxide Removal) values. This transparent data feeds directly into carbon credit certification processes.

Step by step

The Process Chain

01

Feedstock Separation

The digestate from the biogas fermenter is separated into solid and liquid fractions using a mechanical screw press separator.

02

Thermal Drying

The solid fraction is thermally dried using waste heat from the cogeneration engine, reducing moisture content for efficient pyrolysis.

03

KARBOTECH Pyrolysis

Dried biomass is processed in the KARBOTECH pyrolysis unit at controlled temperatures, converting organic matter into stable biochar.

04

Biochar Enrichment

The biochar is blended back into the liquid digestate fraction, absorbing and binding valuable nutrients for slow-release soil application.

05

Field Application

The nutrient-enriched biochar-digestate mixture is applied to agricultural fields. Carbon is locked in soil for centuries.

06

MRV Monitoring

Every tonne of biochar produced and applied is tracked via transparent MRV (Measurement, Reporting, Verification) protocols.

Technology

Why Pyrolysis
at Biogas Plants?

Biogas plants already collect and process large volumes of organic biomass. The digestate they produce contains significant undecomposed organic matter — ideal feedstock for pyrolysis.

By integrating the KARBOTECH unit directly at the biogas plant, we eliminate transport costs, utilize on-site waste heat for drying, and create a closed-loop system that generates multiple value streams simultaneously.

The resulting biochar is a stable form of carbon that resists microbial decomposition for centuries to millennia — making it one of the most durable carbon sequestration methods available.

Energy Integration

Waste heat from cogeneration powers the drying stage — no additional energy cost.

🔄

Closed-loop System

Nutrients from biochar re-enter the agricultural cycle via digestate application.

Verified Permanence

Biochar carbon is stable over 1,000+ years, qualifying for high-quality CDR credits.

📈

Scalable Model

The KARBOTECH one model is designed for replication across thousands of EU biogas plants.

Ready to Scale?

KARBOTECH one proves the model. CDR Infrastructure shows the path to scale — a network of units delivering permanent carbon removal across Europe.
